Artist of the Week – Jess Glynne

27946b43eb92efc9d0d1e6b88acddcb6.570x570x1As you’ll all be aware, Jess Glynne is no newcomer to success in the music industry, having scored her first number one on the UK music chart earlier this year with “Rather Be”, collaborating with Clean Bandit. She is gradually releasing her own music, having shared with us already “Home” (which earned her the nomination for Artist of the Week) and now “Right Here”, which is currently making its rounds on international charts and radios. Both seem to have distinct flavours, mixing soft grunge and electronic beats with syncopated instrumentals. We wish the 25 year old all the best for the future, and can only hope that her inevitable success will be greeted with even more consistently-catchy records.

As the official video to her first official single has not yet been released, have a listen to the audio – it may not be as easy on the eyes but you can’t say her label has underwhelmed us with the decoupage.

Artist of the Week’s Song of the Day – Sedated

Photo By Debbie Hickey www.debbiehickey.comIt’s that time of the week again – and this time it’s the turn of Hozier with his second single “Sedated”. It’s hard to create a formula for Hozier’s music, with each track of his supporting different styles to the last. Perhaps it could be said that his gritty vocals are the star of his music, backed up by simple melodies and instrumentals. Either way though each record is emotive and proves a point – something that can be very powerful when executed perfectly, and in the case of Hozier, it is.

Artist of the Week – Hozier

If you remember, we met Hozier a little while ago when “From Eden” was the Song of the Day. Your votes are in, and with great pleasure guitarleaves can announce Andrew Hozier-Byrne is our next Artist of the Week. I’ve been speaking to his press manager, who informs me he is currently very busy in the US of A. Hozier is so passionate about music – a trait we really respect – so much so that he dropped out of his degree on Trinity College Dublin in order to record demos for his label. His first single, “Take Me To Church” reached number 2 on the Irish charts, and focuses on homophobia – something Hozier describes as not a “civil rights issue” but a “human rights issue” and makes a statement against organised attacks on LGBT youth internationally. The immense power of this song comes from the heartfelt and powerful lyrics, which are what earns this man the title of Artist of the Week.

Artist of the Week’s Song of the Day – Hard As Hello

kimberly-anne“Hard As Hello” is Kimberly Anne’s latest single. It’s been rightfully very successful, with Kimberly being asked to perform it by YouTubers theoldvinylfactory, as well as Bastille taking an interest and remixing it. And what’s more, Kimberly’s accent is ever prominent in the song, which can only be a good thing. Towards the end of the track, as the textural layers come together, the song progresses from catchy to hauntingly beautiful. How so much talent can emerge from one person is beyond us, all we can say is that we’re very jealous.

Artist of the Week – Kimberly Anne

The first thing you should know about Kimberly Anne is that you need to be careful online looking for her music: there is a female bodybuilder called KimberlEy Anne. She’s just as exciting, but maybe not as nice on your ears. We are genuinely really happy to announce Kimberly Anne as our Artist of the Week. I actually met Kimberly a couple of years ago when she was a support act, and she came into the crowd. Not only did I get the usual fan stuff (autograph; photo; EP) but I also got to touch her afro – I think that’s a solid claim to fame, no? Perhaps the most chilled and friendly artist I have ever met, she used customised teabags as promotion for her EP. Now that’s a true Brit if ever I saw one. If you’ve not heard of her then don’t worry, her tunes will be no rare visitor to guitarleaves over the coming week. Enjoy her single “Bury It There”:

Artist of the Week’s Song of the Day – Wet Gold

the-octopus-projectIt’s Monday – yes, it’s back to work, but it also means that today’s Song of the Day comes from guitarleaves’ Artist of the Week – The Octopus Project. If you liked “Sharpteeth”, which we featured on Thursday, then I think you’ll like “Wet Gold”. A bizarre song (although the sanest out of the band’s collection) in its own right, it experiments with a unique set of harmonies and instruments, giving the band their wonderfully odd trademark flavour. Have a listen and let us know what you think.
